On the second day, visit Taquile Island, famous for its terraced hillsides and world-renowned textiles recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage. Walk scenic paths, explore artisan markets, and enjoy a delicious local lunch before returning to Puno.

Itinerary

DÍA 1 Puno – Uros Floating Islands – Amantaní Island

The tour begins at 8:00 a.m. with a pickup from your hotel. From there, we head to the pier to board the boat and set off for the islands.

  • First Stop: Uros Floating Islands
    Our first destination is the Uros Floating Islands, where you’ll learn about how these islands were built atop the world’s highest navigable lake. The visit includes an explanation of their construction using totora reeds, as well as insights into the daily life and traditions of the Uro-Aymara families. The visit lasts approximately 1 hour.
  • Second Stop: Amantaní Island
    We then continue to Amantaní Island, enjoying the stunning views of the lake along the way. Upon arrival, local families will welcome us. A short 30-minute ascent takes us to a family home where you’ll settle in and enjoy a traditional lunch.In the afternoon, you’ll have the option to hike to one of the island’s sacred mountains, Pachatata, accompanied by the guide. In the evening, the families organize an optional cultural activity with music and dance, where you’ll have the chance to wear traditional island attire. Dinner will be provided by your host family, and you’ll spend the night on the island in a rural home.

 

DÍA 2 Amantaní Island – Taquile Island – Puno
  • Morning Departure
    After breakfast, the families will escort you to the port for farewell goodbyes. From there, we’ll board the boat for a 1-hour trip to Taquile Island.
  • Taquile Island Visit
    Enjoy a leisurely walk to the main square, where you’ll have time to explore the artisan shops and admire the island’s renowned textiles, recognized as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. You’ll also visit a local family to learn about their customs and traditions.Afterward, enjoy a delicious local lunch before continuing the walk to the island’s second port. We’ll board the boat for the return trip to Puno, arriving back at approximately 3:30 p.m.

Highlights of the Islands

  • Uros Floating Islands
    These islands are crafted from totora reeds through skilled and continuous weaving. The reeds are renewed every two months to maintain the islands’ structure. The Uro-Aymara families preserve their ancestral fishing traditions using totora reed rafts. There are over 80 floating islands, and their homes are also constructed and roofed with totora mats.
  • Amantaní Island
    This island is home to a community that engages in agriculture, weaving, and stone carving. Amantaní is divided into ten communities and spans about 9 square kilometers. Crops such as potatoes, corn, oca, quinoa, and fava beans are cultivated here. Visitors can explore natural viewpoints with panoramic views of Lake Titicaca, as well as Pachatata and Pachamama ceremonial centers. Rural accommodations allow guests to share daily life with the local families.
  • Taquile Island
    Taquile is known for its terraced landscapes and pre-Inca ceremonial centers. Its residents are experts in traditional textile weaving, recognized by UNESCO for its cultural significance. The textiles feature symmetrical, symbolic, and brightly colored designs that reflect the islanders’ Andean way of life. Taquile spans 5.72 square kilometers, and its altitude ranges from 3,810 m.a.s.l. at the port to 3,950 m.a.s.l. in the village. Temperatures range from a maximum of 23°C (66°F) to a minimum of 7°C (37°F).
